It’s hard to believe that it’s nearly been half a century since The Beatles released ‘Hey Jude.’ The song song skyrocketed to the top of the charts in 1968 and stayed there for nine weeks, two weeks longer than their break-out 1964 hit ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand.’ Many people don’t know it, but the original title was ‘Hey Jules.’ Paul wrote the song for then 5-year-old Julian Lennon who was struggling to cope with his parents’ divorce. Over 7 minutes long, ‘Hey Jude’ is one of The Beatles’ longest numbers and was considered too long for radio play at the time. The classic melody and heartfelt lyrics touched a generation of listeners who still love the ballad to this day. Enjoy this anniversary with the live performance below.
