Jerry Van Dyke has passed away at the age of 86.
According to the New York Times, Jerry’s wife Shirley Ann Jones confirmed his death. Jones said her husband’s health had been declining since a 2015 traffic accident. Jerry died at his ranch in Arkansas on Friday.
The younger brother of Dick Van Dyke, Jerry made his acting debut on his brother’s classic sitcom, The Dick Van Dyke Show. Jerry quickly became a fan favorite as Stacey Petrie, the comically narcoleptic brother of Dick’s character, Rob Petrie. Jerry would go on to make appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show and the Judy Garland Show.
Jerry is most well known for his role as the lovable assistant coach Luther Van Dam on Craig T. Nelson’s sitcom Coach. He would go on to earn 4 Emmy nominations for the role.
Before his death, Jerry recently appeared on Yes, Dear. He even convinced Dick to appear as his character’s brother on a 2015 episode of the ABC series The Middle.
