It was a day of big surprises when Eva Goeb’s son Donny knocked on her door unexpectedly.
Donny and his wife Miranda had been a dual Air Force family since 2008, so they were rarely able to come home more often than once a year. Jumping up and down with Joy, Eva doesn’t notice the third visitor waiting on her doorstep. Needless to say she was more than a little confused when Donny and Miranda handed her a baby girl. In what may have been the greatest Christmas surprise of her life, Eva learned that she was a grandmother.
Miranda had recently retired from the Air Force to start a family. Stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, she began the adoption process as soon as her retirement was official. There were so many unknowns surrounding the adoption that Donny and Miranda kept the whole thing a secret.
In early Novemember, Donny and Miranda learned their adoption request was approved and they met the birth mother just days before Thanksgiving. Barely two weeks later their adopted daughter Melissa Faith, who they’ve nicknamed Lily, was born.
“We chose not to tell our families due to so many unknowns,” Miranda said. “We wanted to protect our hearts and theirs. We were taking a huge leap of faith. Once the baby Lily was officially placed with us, to become our daughter, we decided that it was not the type of news to be shared over the phone.”
They decided to surprise Donny’s mother and captured the whole heartwarming event on video!
