Jeffrey Heim was swimming in the Gulf of Mexico near Caspersen Beach in Venice, Florida last Sunday when he found a long-lost GoPro. The water-proof camera was covered in barnacles after spending a few years at sea, but was otherwise no worse for wear.
Heim checked the memory card and found a photograph that was taken more than 4 years ago. Now he’s asking everyone to share the photo with hopes of finding the original owner. He shared the photo and a picture of the camera itself on Twitter,
Found this in the ocean today, still works and this is the last picture taken on it from 4 years ago. @GoPro how can we get a reunion with the original owner? pic.twitter.com/9z8YT1Zzg1

“I just wanted to find the owner,” Heim told ABC Action News. “I’ve lost three GoPros myself, two in Georgia, one in the Keys. I know how it feels.”
Heim found the camera while diving for shark teeth. “This was about 12 feet deep and it was between some rocks,” he explained. I try to get in between rocks to get to spots that nobody else can get to.”
The image below was found on the camera along with what appears to be video footage from the couple’s wedding.
“One video is at a wedding where they strapped the GoPro to the top of the dog and he’s running around meeting everybody at the wedding,” said Heim. “So I think this couple in the picture are married or at least were married. We’re trying to find out a lot of things.”
GoPro shared Heim’s tweet on their corporate Twitter page. As of the writing of this article, the image has been shared more than 1,000 times!
