A teacher from Spokane, Washington has made headlines after he required his students to lock up their cell phones.
Michae Lee’s students must store their cellular devices in a phone locker cubby before class begins. The lockers even have access to charging ports. So far, not a single student has complained about the new requirement.
Students are assigned a locker number and key to safely secure their phones during class.
“My overall goal was to give kids and opportunity to engage in what they’re doing,” Lee explained to his local CBS affiliate. “No one has said to me, ‘Mr. Lee, can I please not lock up my phone?’ They just walk in, lock it up. They get to work, and that’s exactly the intention of it.”
Lee mentioned the idea to parents at an open house and they fully supported his phone lock up plan. Now even more teachers are planning to install a phone locker in their classroom.
