In what may be one of the most moving episodes of ABC’s What Would You Do?, a teenage girl breaks down after defending a stranger from an abusive partner. The setup is simple, the actors portray a scene of verbal domestic abuse in public and wait for someone to respond. Although they are clearly heard by the crowd and the ‘victim’ audibly weeps, almost no one even acknowledges the display. Martina, a 19-year-old girl, can’t sit back and watch any longer despite her mother’s protests. She steps forward and asks the abused woman to stay behind, pulling the stranger toward the safety of Martina’s group. Once Martina gets involved, however, her mother provides full support to protect the abused stranger. What happens next will help restore your faith in humanity.
