Horse-drawn carriages hauled dozens and dozens of Amish people to Joseph Hochstetler’s farm in Knox County, Ohio. They had only one task to accomplish: move Hochstetler’s pole barn entirely by hand, in the middle of winter, from one side of the farm to the other.
Around 250 men gathered around the barn’s four corners and started to raise and carry it as a whole. The women observed as the men twisted and straightened the enormous building, making comments as they did so until the barn was securely set in its new location across the field, about 200 feet away.
