Police have been warning drivers across the country to be aware of a new type of criminal known as “sliders.”
The primary victims of this crime are usually women traveling alone.
“Sliders” operate mostly at gas stations, and they wait for a woman to exit her vehicle before they strike.
While the victim is occupied by the gas pump, the thieves sneak up to the passenger door and “slide” into the vehicle.
In less than 3 seconds the thief can snatch a purse, wallet, or phone and disappear without the driver ever knowing they were there.
Police recommend locking your doors and taking your purse with you even if you’re just pumping gas beside your car.
