As some NFL players continue to protest the national anthem by refusing to stand, one owner has decided enough is enough. Doug Baldwin, a receiver for the Seattle Seahawks told the Washington post about one owner in particular who wants his players to stand, or else.
According to the Post, Baldwin said, “The one quote that I was informed of was, ‘You’re going to stand on the line with your hand on your heart and you’re going to sing the national anthem because this is my stage.”
In an interview with HBO’s Bill Simmons, Baldwin called the owner’s demand “egregious.” He would not reveal the identity of the owner, but many have speculated the quote came from Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys. Jones has publicly expressed his disappointment in the protest on more than one occasion.
Baldwin is one of the many players who have come forward is support of the national anthem protests started by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Baldwin continually insists that his protest is meant to draw attention to racist police action and does not intend to disrespect the sacrifices made by military servicemen and women. Baldwin has family in the military and his father was a police officer.
