How many children stop by your doorstep on Halloween night every year? One out of every thirteen of them has a food allergy and cannot consume the majority of candies made in factories containing nuts, milk, or other potential allergens. The Teal Pumpkin Project aims to help parents of children with mild to severe food allergies have a more pleasant Halloween. Houses that offer allergen free candy, such as SweetTarts or Smarties, are encouraged to put out a teal pumpkin to identify their house as a safe zone. One mother stated “you don’t realize how stressful it really is until you are in that situation. Last year we went, but we only went to a few houses. No kid likes to be left out.”
