Disney is a magical place where “dreams come true.” And that’s exactly what one family experience.
For the past three years, Courtney and Tom Gilmour have fostered Janielle, 12, and Elijah, 10. The couple had planned on adopting Janielle and Elijah for awhile, but they were just waiting on the official adoption day.
The family had planned a trip to Walt Disney World. Janielle and Elijah knew the Gilmour’s were going to adopt them, they just didn’t know when it would be official. Well, a day before they left for their Disney vacation, Courtney and Tom were notified of the official date of adoption. They decided to wait until they were in Disney to share the news with the children.
When the family arrived in Disney, they were handed buttons to write on, explaining what they were their to celebrate. Tom took a photo of the buttons and tweeted them to the Walt Disney World Twitter account. Eventually, a Disney representative reached out to Tom and Courtney, asking how they could make their trip a little more special. Courtney thought they might get free ice cream, but they got SO MUCH more.
Disney setup a surprise Meet & Greet with the most iconic Disney character, Mickey Mouse.
In the video below, you’ll see everything unfold. Mickey signs their autograph books, does a little magic trick, and then it’s time for the real surprise.
Mickey holds a sign with a date, May 24, 2017. Their official adoption day. Both kids burst into tears, and it’s the most precious moment.
