‘Jeopardy!’ host Alex Trebek, 78, has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, which has a median life expectancy of 2 to 6 months.
At this stage the cancer has often moved to other parts of the body. There is no cure and the primary treatment is typically to improve the quality of life of the patient.
According to TMZ, Trebek plans to stay strong and fight to the end. He will begin chemo therapy immediately and will continue to host for as long as he is able.
“Now normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m going to fight this, and I’m going to keep working,” he said in a statement on Wednesday. “And I’m going to keep working and with the love and support of my family and friends and I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease.”
Trebek has hosted ‘Jeopardy!’ since 1984.
