The St. Nicholas Church located in the northern English county of Kyloe, Northumberland was built in the 1790s, but has sat abandoned and deserted for many years.
Over the last few decades, the once beautiful church has fallen into disrepair. Given the crumbling headstones outside, you’d never guess this old church has a lovely secret inside.
One couple fell in love with the old church and decided to move in after purchasing it. They spent countless hours and money maintaining the building and updating the interior to give it a modern-home feel while restoring important components like the original stained glass windows and vaulted ceilings.
With the exception of skylights that run the length of the roof, the exterior is unaltered. There are numerous original stained glass windows and restored church furnishings. A large portion of the old church seats were restored and installed throughout the house. Additionally, a striking staircase was constructed out of leftover wood and construction materials that connected the main living area to an upper-level library.
Many people may think it’s crazy to build a house out of an ancient church, but one pair was able to prevent the building’s degeneration while also producing something lovely.
