Crows are smart. You need look no further than this incredible video of a crow taking a test. That’s right — A test.
More than 30 million crows fly through the United States each year, and new research shows that they’re smarter than we even imagined. You remember the Raven from the Edgar Allan Poe and that’s not the first smart crow you’ve probably heard of. Also, while the Raven is a different species, it’s technically a member of the same family as all the other crows. They’re black birds and they make a deeper sound than the typical crow you might see everyday.
Their brain’s only about the size of a human thumb, but relative to their body size, that’s big, and scientists are learning more about them through experiments just like this one.
Another fun fact: It’s been proven that crows can recognize a person’s face. A researcher from the University of Washington’s Aviation Conservation Lab, Professor John Marzluff, says, “They recognize individual people that are important to them and when somebody does something dangerous, they mark that person, remember that person, as far as I can tell, for their life.”
