Steve and Allison Mathias were in for a bit of shock in 2000 when their doctor informed them they wouldn’t be having just one kid, but instead, they were having four.
Allison was on complete bed-rest for most of her pregnancy. The chance of giving a natural birth to quadruplets is 1 in 800,000. And the odds of the quadruplets being identical are 1 in 11,000,000.
The quadruplets were delivered 12-weeks premature by cesarean. The quadruplet girls, Grace, Emily, Mary Claire, and Anna, were in the intensive-care unit for several weeks. But, they were all eventually discharged with a clean-bill of health.
