Dion was a huge success. Dion and the Belmonts had hit after hit in the 60s and it helped cement him as forever a teen idol.
His classic song “The Wanderer” is just as great today as it was back in 1961 and it’ll definitely take you back to “the good old days!”
Dion and the Belmonts appeared for the first time on television on the ever-fresh program “American Bandstand” and we know we watched him on that show being introduced by none other than Dick Clark.
It wasn’t all fun and games though, because in early 1960, Dion checked into a hospital for a heroin addiction. Can you even imagine that? I didn’t even know heroin was a thing until the mid 80s. He actually came back from that to have a full career. Sometimes rehab is seen as a career ender, but thankfully Dion’s career was just getting started. That’s good for us, because he gave us so many great songs after that like “Where or When” and “Runaround Sue.”
