Jane Lipington found that one of her horses, Beatrice, was on the ground and in serious pain. She and her husband acted swiftly and worked for hours to get Beatrice up from the ground and into treatment.
Beatrice was too heavy and he felt too bad to stand on her own. The veterinarian recommended that she be put down.
The clock was ticking while the family had to make a very hard decision.
Beatrice’s stablemate Beau leaned over his friend and began to bite her neck in an effort to get Beatrice to help herself off the ground. That’s when something miraculous happened…
Lipington told reporters with The Telegraph:
It is absolutely astonishing. We were prepared to lose her and had arranged for her to be put down but Beau knew what to do.
As we were walking her, we phoned to cancel her being put down. It was that close. Our vet was astounded. We are used to seeing extraordinary interactions between the horses but we have never witnessed a horse saving another’s life.
Beau achieved what six hours of human endeavor with straps and machinery had failed to – he managed to lift Beatrice up off the floor which has allowed her to live on.
