Have you ever heard the saying, “neighbors are like family”? Well, in the case of 89-year-old Angie Tyma, her neighbors took that saying to heart.
After being evicted from her home of 35 years due to foreclosure, Tyma was left with no job and no place to go. That’s when her neighbors stepped in. One of her neighbors, Danielle Calder, decided to buy the home and allow Tyma to stay as her tenant.
Why did Calder go through all that trouble? It’s simple: Tyma is the glue that holds the neighborhood together. Everyone knows her and loves her. She’s feisty, energetic, and has two little dogs that she walks every day.
“Quite honestly, I didn’t need another house,” Calder, 65, said in an interview with TODAY. “But I needed her. I couldn’t see her living in a motel room… she’s been here so long. Everyone looks out for her.”
When Tyma’s neighbors surprised her with the newly painted house on her birthday, she was speechless. “I was in a state of shock,” she said. “I couldn’t even talk.”
That’s what being a good neighbor is all about.
