Employees heard some noise from lumber section at Home Depot, find grieving family building coffin

Scott Neilson was a father of three who struggled with a brain tumor and sadly passed away at 46 years-old. It escalated quickly and the family was devastated.

Neilson didn’t have a life insurance policy at the time. He was, however, a home builder himself and a skilled one at that, and his family was full of contractors.

The siblings all banded together to build him a casket with their own hands. They felt like it would be an honor and the construction of the casket might be cathartic for them in some way.

Home Depot was where they came together to being and each family member had a part in the process. Kent Neilson said, “Whether it was staining, drilling holes, or the final layer of fabric, we all took part.”

They also thanked Home Depot for providing them with space to work.
