Jonathan Lawler is a fairly successful farmer who lives in Indiana. He doesn’t make a lot of money, but he’s got enough to get by with some left over to put in the bank. He sells about 700,000 pounds of food each year.
His son came home and told him one day something that gave him pause. In Jon’s own words, “He came home from school and talked about kids who take home food from the food pantry.” He couldn’t believe it, some of his son’s classmates were hungry and didn’t get enough food each day.
Despite living a town full of farms, these kids weren’t getting what they needed and he knew he had to help, and his solution blew everybody away.
He restructured the business model of his own farm and turned it into a food-aid organization. He now provides local food banks, soup kitchens, and hungry people in his own community.
