Fed up teacher quits after students destroy classroom, her photos spark outrage

Texas’s Cedar Creek middle school is short an instructor after Julie Marburger suddenly quit. She made the decision to retire from teaching at the end of the year, but the prospect of carrying on after the incident below was unfathomable.

After speaking with a student who had been acting inappropriately, Julie received a furious call from the boy’s mother during the school day. Julie alleged that the mother was very “disrespectful and rude” to her over the call. Her entire class must have heard the awkward conversation.

Julie was so upset by the phone conversation that she turned to Facebook for advice. She shared a post demonstrating how disrespectfully her students and their parents had treated her. She added seven images to her Facebook post that were taken inside her classroom. One image shows a bookshelf that has been totally demolished. In another, the room is covered in papers. The list of destructive behaviors includes tearing apart books and peeling tape off of walls.

Julie planted the responsibility squarely at the parents’ feet. “People absolutely HAVE to stop coddling and enabling their children,” Julie wrote. “It’s not fair to society, and more importantly, is not fair to the children to teach them this is okay. It will not serve them towards a successful and happy life.”

Julie was certain that she would be attacked online by critics of her comments, but that wasn’t what happened. Watch the ABC News story below to find out what happened next.
