Bullying is a problem worldwide. It’s not easy being a kid. We all know that because we’ve all been there. Some schools are trying to help, but sometimes it’s still not enough.
This boy named Jonathan was having trouble with bullies for a long time before it escalated and he was beaten rather brutally. That’s horrible!
Jonathan was mocked one morning for his shoes, and he put on his headphones and did his best to ignore the bully through the day, but the bully waited for him after school and confronted Jonathan on the bus. The bully busted his lip, and crushed his glasses.
Some local firefighters decided they’d become the boy’s heroes and that they’d step in and help. It was very nice of them!
Jonathan, we should mention, suffers from autism. So the firefighters arrived to the scene and called Jonathan’s mother and then they drove him home. Jonathan opened up to the firefighters as they drove. It really touched them and they wanted to help the boy.
Later that evening, they came back and surprised Jonathan with some new shoes. The firefighters told him, “That’s all for you for being such a great kid, for keeping your cool, for not losing it, and for being the better person.”
Jonathan had some choice words about what he’d do to his bully: “I would like to tell that student that I forgive him, and would like to be his friend. My mom and I talked yesterday, and would like to invite the student who did this to dinner with us, so that he can see that we are not different, just because we look different.”
Doesn’t he sound like a sweet and strong young man? We’d all like to say the heroes with that local fire department really understand the meaning of community. Keep up the great work!
