A gas pipeline owned by Colonial Pipelines exploded in Helena, Alabama killing one person and injuring at least five people yesterday. Flames filled the sky near a wooded area of Shelby County and a column of black smoke could be seen from miles away. Thousands of gallons of gas had been reported in an earlier gas leak, but authorities have not yet linked that leak with the explosion. Local gas prices soared as residents reacted in fear of a gas shortage. As of Monday morning the fire continued to burn and multiple fire crews attempted to control the damage. Colonial Pipeline believes the line could be down until the weekend and gas prices may rise up to 13% according to Reuters.
