Bessie Hendricks, a remarkable woman from Iowa, turned 115-years-old and became the oldest living person in the United States.
In her lifetime, Bessie has lived through the election of 21 presidents, the two World Wars, the sinking of the Titanic, and two Chicago Cubs World Series Championships.
Her 115th birthday was a huge event filled with her surviving children, the eldest of which just celebrated her 90th birthday!
In addition to being the oldest person in the United States, Bessie is also the tenth oldest person in the world. She says her secret to such a long life is putting family first. After losing her mother when she was just 13, Bessie took it on herself to raise her siblings, and demonstrated her resilience and determination from a tender age.
