While traveling down I-75 near Ruskin, Florida, Veronica Casteleiro took a picture of a massive crowd forming around a terrible car crash.

Dozens of strangers were working together as a team to save a 9-year-old girl trapped beneath an SUV. The Ford Excursion was headed north along I-75 when one of the back tires burst at high speed. The driver quickly lost control and the large vehicle flipped over a guard rail into the grassy median between the north and southbound lanes.

Commuters like Dayna Gibson and her father David Lowe stopped their cars and rushed to help the survivors. After pulling the 31-year-old driver and a young child from the wreck Gibson was given some frightening news. “She told us that her youngest daughter was under the vehicle,” Gibson told the Miami Herald. “So at that time all of us ran around to the other side and we saw the little girl’s arm sticking out from under the vehicle.”

Gibson along with her father and a few others attempted to flip the wreck, but the heavy SUV wouldn’t move. Other drivers saw the commotion and started to pull over. In just a few moments more than 50 strangers came together to save the little girl.

“We achieved what would have been impossible by coming together,” Gibson said. “There were people from all walks of life there, it didn’t matter.”

Gibson’s father was amazed by the diversity of the crowd. “It was surreal,” he said. “Everyone from shorts and flip flops to three piece suits.”

Their hard work paid off and the group of Good Samaritans managed to free the little girl. She and the other survivors were taken to Tampa General hospital and treated for their injuries. The driver and older passenger were released the same day, but the 9-year-old girl was kept under observation and listed as fair condition.

Gibson told reporters that anything is possible when people work together for a common goal. “I think if we could be reminded how powerful we are together, especially during these times, we could do a lot of great things,” she said.
