Olivia Newton-John has canceled her upcoming tour in the United States and Canada after learning that her cancer has returned.
Newton-John had beaten breast cancer back in 2012, but her battle wasn’t over.
The 68-year-old singer discovered the cancer had returned and spread to her back after she was forced to postpone the first half of her tour due to severe back pain. She released the following press release earlier today:
The back pain that initially caused her to postpone the first half of her concert tour, has turned out to be breast cancer that has metastasized to the sacrum. In addition to natural wellness therapies, Olivia will complete a short course of photon radiation therapy and is confident she will be back later in the year, better than ever, to celebrate her shows.
Newton-John also spoke directly to the press saying, “I decided on my direction of therapies after consultation with my doctors and natural therapists and the medical team at my Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia.”
The beloved singer and actress was first diagnosed with cancer in 1992. She has spent more than two decades campaigning for other victims of the disease and helped set up the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness research centre. Her celebrity friends like Sir Cliff Richard and Joan Rivers have helped Newton-John sponsor and promote her research centre.
