For Koko’s birthday, she got to adopt two kittens and she fell in love right away. Koko rose to fame in the 80s the Gorilla that can speak with sign language.
She’s always loved cats and asked for a cat for Christmas in 1983. The biologists gave her a stuffed animal. She hated it and signed, “Sad.” This is true. They caved in and gave her a real kitten in 1984 that she named “All Ball.” Koko treated All Ball like her baby.
Unfortunately, All Ball died after escaping from the cage and later being struck by a car. Her handler, Penny Patterson, told reporters that Koko signed “Bad, sad, bad. Frown, cry, frown, sad.”
In 2015, Koko got to pick out two new kittens.
