First of all, we should start by saying that everybody actually made it out of this crash “uninjured” according to Salzburg 24 which was the news agency in Austria which wrote about this incident. So that means it’s perfectly fine to marvel at how much this scene looks like it’s straight out of an action movie.
From the beautiful wide shot of the mountains wrapped in steam to the action packed moment the man dodges the out-of-control helicopter as it crashes into the cliff. It’s pretty remarkable actually.
What’s even more remarkable is that it’s true, there were no injuries.
According to reports, the helicopter pilot lost control of the helicopter after a gust of wind. The helicopter, itself a rescue helicopter, had been called out at about 8 a.m. local time because of what’s described as a medical emergency. Conditions were said to be less than ideal because air density decreases with increasing altitude and warmer temperatures.
The pilot, Roy Knaus, is the owner of a fleet of helicopters and has been grounded while authorities investigate the incident.
A translation of Knaus’ account of the accident is as follows: “You can see that there was a steady wind. It could be that the wind has subsided at the moment. That’s why it could be that the machine was too heavy and then staggered with the additional weight of the patient.”
