A man from Frankfurt, Germany reported his car had been stolen back in 1997. Police eventually located his vehicle… twenty years later.
For two decades the Volkswagen Passat sat in the same spot where its owner had parked it (the image above is just a stock photo of an old car). The driver simply couldn’t remember where that was!
The car would likely have remained lost for decades to come had the structure it was parked inside not been scheduled for demolition. Police say that the car was “hidden from view” by piles of debris and junk and could not be easily seen unless someone searched through the mess.
According to local newspaper Ausberger Allgemein, the car was parked in the garage of an industrial building that was permanently closed sometime in the 1990s.
Sadly, the rusted old car was in bad shape. “The car can no longer be driven and will be sent to the scrap heap,” Frankfurt police said.
What’s the longest you’ve gone without remembering where you parked?
