Nelson Wilson was feeding his horses one morning and noticed a finch perched on a steal fence near a water tank.
Wilson says the tank is heated to keep it from freezing. It is not uncommon for birds to drink from the heated tank. And apparently this unfortunate bird had gotten its feet wet and, while making its exit, had become frozen to the fence in the prevailing near zero temperatures.
Wilson first tried to warm the feet of the bird by pressing his palm against both the fence and the birds feet, while restraining the bird from moving its wings. This solution wasn’t working very fast, so Wilson decided to try using his breath to warm the birds feet.
With Wilson’s warm breath and a gentle sideways motion brought the bird to freedom.
Awesome job Mr. Wilson! He even got a little chirp, we think the little finch was saying “thank you.” Watching the bird fly away safely is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
