Man runs into neighbor’s burning home, rescues family’s 85 pound dog

Tim Tawater was headed to a party when he saw a neighbor’s home on fire. He didn’t know the neighbors at all, but that didn’t stop him from risking his life to save their beloved pet dog.

Tim was a veteran firefighter himself, so he knew he couldn’t just pass by without doing anything. The emergency responders had not yet made it to the emblazoned house. He opened the front door and called out to see if anybody was hurt or who was home.

That’s when he saw a large dog standing by the door. Unfortunately, the dog ran in fear. “If someone has a dog that big in the house, it means that dog is family. I couldn’t do anything about the property, but I could save that dog. I thought it was worth a chance.”

He managed to get the 85-pound dog to safety just as the roof was beginning to collapse. “Firefighters don’t do what we do for ourselves. We do it because we want to help others.”
