There’s a neighborhood in Tacoma along the Puget Sound where you can hear the soft melody of “Taps” each night at sunset. So who is behind this mysterious song each night?
Don Brittain is a retired aerospace employee and an amateur trumpet player. His nightly ritual is to step out on his balcony and play a song of respect.
Brittain told reporters that he himself was not able to join the military because he had polio as a child. He respects the sacrifices the soldiers and veterans have had to make.
Each morning Brittain checks for the exact time of sunset and he regularly practices the song just to keep in top form.
The song might be short, but it has a remarkable effect. You’ve probably seen it yourself. People tend to stop what their doing and offer a moment of silence.
