Doris Payne is a lifelong master thief who’s stolen about $2 million worth of jewelry. Her story was featured in a documentary about her life of crime.
Welp, she’s in trouble again. She was arrested at the ripe age of 86 yesterday inside an Atlanta Mall Department Store in Dunwoody, Georgia. Police received a call that she attempted to make off with a very expensive necklace.
She is currently being held in DeKalb County Jain for shoplifting.
Being arrested was nothing new for Payne who was recently just let out for “good behavior.”
Mark Stevens, Dunwoody police spokesman said, “Payne has an extensive history as a jewelry thief and has been mentioned in a Netflix documentary on jewelry thieves.”
In the documentary, “The Life and Crimes of Doris Payne,” she discusses her career as a lifelong thief. In her 20s, she would dress in fine clothes with deep pockets and distract jewelers with her charm while she made off with countless items. She said in the film, “I don’t have any regrets about stealing jewelry. I regret getting caught.”
Last October she was arrested for taking a $690 pair of Christian Dior earrings from a local Saks Fifth Avenue.
