Jose lived in a small Mexican village. He absolutely loved American baseball. All he did was talk about baseball. Finally, all the villagers one day decided to take up a collection so they could send Jose to a real American baseball game. The day finally arrived when Jose was going to be traveling to see an actual baseball game. On the way to the game, Jose’s car broke down and by the time he actually arrived at the game, the game was all sold out.
Jose pleads with the ticket agent, “Please I drove all the way up from Mexico. Isn’t there something you can do?”
“Well,” the ticket agent says, “there is one seat left but it’s right on top of the flagpole. If you want it, it’s all yours.”
“I’ll take it.” Jose says.
After the game, Jose drives back to Mexico. The next day all his friends come to Jose’s house and ask him, “Jose, Jose, tell us, did you have a good time?”
“Oh yes,” Jose replies, “The American people are so very nice.”
“What do you mean?” the villagers ask.
“Well, before the game started, all the people watching the game stood up, looked at me and started singing — Jose, can you see, by the dawn’s early light…”
