Dr. Michael Lynch of the Pittsburgh Poison Center says he gets more than 20 calls a year about kids overdosing from seeds. “Taking too much of that can cause the heart rate to slow way down, have abnormal heart rhythms, and even death. So that would probably be the most dangerous class of plants.”
Teens have begun using seeds to get high. Some of them may choose Jimson weed, Oleander, Angel’s Trumpet or Morning Glory. Make sure to ask your kids why they have seeds in their room if you find any. Dr. Lynch says, “Open and frank discussions about the dangers of things that might not seem that dangerous on the surface.”
