Susan Hickman found an odd looking animal in her yard. It looked like a cracked bird egg on the ground and she was stunned to see that the animal was still alive. This was last June. In a year, the animal’s transformation is rather remarkable.
Animal “experts” told her the bird would die. She named it Klinger because of the way it was clinging on to life. She fed him every half hour and it wasn’t easy. She told herself that she’d release him back into the wild if he got healthy again, but unfortunately, she found out that wouldn’t be possible.
She explained, “Klinger was raised as an only bird from the day he hatched. A single bird cannot be raised without imprinting on its caretaker. Imprinting is a special learning process which occurs early in life, through which an animal develops a sense of species identification.”
The animal turned out be what’s called a Starling and she was lucky enough to live in a state where it’s legal to raise them as pets. So now they have a little family.
