In Anchorage, Alaska, it’s not unheard of to see a moose near commercial districts, and it’s not insane to see them venture close to the stores, but shoppers were pretty alarmed when the Moose decided to lie down in the middle of a Lowe’s parking lot and refused to move.
They tried to move her but eventually alerted security who made a pretty big discovery — the moose was in labor, and she wasn’t moving until she was done.
They blocked off an area to help provide her some privacy. One staff-member said, “Seeing the way she’s been acting — not so much angry, but you can tell she’s just kind of like a little scared and timid and doesn’t know what to think of everything, because everybody has been showing up around the area. It is exciting, it’s a new life, you know, so it’s very exciting, but at the other end, she needs her privacy.”
Bystanders waited to see a glimpse of the newborn calf and eventually they got their wish.
One witness was overheard saying, “It’s amazing to think, like, that is a baby moose, it was probably just born. It looks pretty big, but then think how small that looks in comparison to how big they really get,” to her young boys.
Officers with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game eventually arrived to help lead the moose and her newborn to the forest from which they came.
