Guard rails, metal barriers which wrap around steep turns, are supposed to keep people safe by preventing the cars from leaving the highway, but they can do plenty of damage themselves.
A bunch of scientists in South Korea with a company called ETI think they’ve got a clever solution that you must admit looks pretty brilliant. It’s a series of what are essentially plastic rollers that help reduce the impact.
The reduced impact and the “give” of these new barriers is supposed to drastically reduced the number of rollovers that result when a car or truck leaves the roadway. Maybe we’ll see them in our hometown one day?
