Officer Luis Hernandez showed up after complaints of a couple of panhandlers with a baby wrapped in blankets. But after he arrived, he realized this was a very different story than typical.
Just before the Christmas holidays, and with only one week’s notice, the poor parents found out their two-year-old daughter would need heart surgery. They could afford to fly out the child and the mother, but they couldn’t afford so much as a bus ticket for the father.
Officer Hernandez thought of his own child, “Even if there’s just a one iota percent chance that I’d never see my daughter again, there’s that chance… And I wouldn’t miss that for the world.”
That’s where this story takes a heartwarming turn.
