Providence Arcade is the oldest mall in America. Built in 1828 as the first indoor shopping mall and now a National Historic Landmark was abandoned after going bankrupt.

That all changed in 2005 when developer Evan Granoff bought the Providence Arcade and turned upper-level retail spaces into 225 square foot apartments and had businesses and the original sun-flooded atrium on the first level.
