A mother traveling on Saudi Airlines left her child at the airport, requiring the pilot to turn around and land back where they started.
This mother apparently forgot her child in an airport’s boarding area, according to Newsweek. She boarded the aircraft, sat through takeoff, and realized her child was missing after the plane was airborne.
Fortunately, the pilot was able to arrange for the jet to do a U-turn and return to the departing airport.
“May God be with us. Can we come back or what?” the pilot asked while negotiating with air traffic control. “This flight is requesting to come back… a passenger forgot her baby in the waiting area, the poor thing.”
The air traffic controller was completely stunned by the request and asked for the pilot to explain the problem that required the immediate return.
“We told you, a passenger left her baby in the terminal and refuses to continue the flight,” the pilot confirmed.
The controller agreed the unplanned return flight was necessary. “OK, head back to the gate,” he said. “This is a totally new one for us!”
