Hearts Break As Orangutan Tries To Stop Excavator Destroying Its Habitat

A heartbreaking video shows a wild Orangutan trying to fight an excavator destroying its forest home.

The dramatic video quickly went viral after it was uploaded to YouTube.

The great ape can be seen running along a fallen tree before reaching the excavator’s bucket.

Workers shout and try to shoo the Orangutan away as it falls to the broken branches below.

Orangutans are currently only found in the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra in Indonesia and Malaysia. They are foragers who subsist on a diet of fruits, insects, leaves, bark, and bird eggs.

Like humans, Orangutans are one of the few animal species to use tools.

Both Sumatran and Bornean Orangutans are currently listed as critically endangered species. It is estimated that there are around 100,000 Orangutans left following a 60% decline in their population since the mid 1970s.
