Juliana Farris Mazurkewicz, a mother from Houston, Texas, was startled when she noticed the sign posted at her child’s day care center.
In bold letters it read,
You are picking up your child! GET OFF YOUR PHONE!!!!
Your child is happy to see you! Are you not happy to see your child??
We have seen children trying to hand their parents their work they completed and the parent is on the phone. We have heard a child say ‘Mommy, mommy, mommy…” and the parent is paying more attention to their phone than their own child. It is appalling.
Get off your phone!!
At first Mazurkewicz felt like she had been slapped in the face, but she couldn’t argue when she realized her phone was in her hand the whole time. Too many parents spend more time with their phone than with their own children, so Mazurkewicz decided to take a picture and shared it on Facebook after she had spent some time with her kids.
Her post immediately went viral. “I thought it was awesome,” she told Fox News. “I thought it was funny and it definitely made me think.” She noticed a change too, none of the other parents have their phones out anymore. She hopes parents will think about the note throughout the day. “I think it definitely resonates with people, and it’s not just at the day care, it’s anywhere.”
