Linda Koebner was a grad student when she got invited to work on a special project. She was only 23 at the time, but it was a job she’d remember for her whole life.
There was a group of six laboratory-raised chimpanzees who were going to be freed of their cages. Linda’s job was to help acclimate the chimpanzees to real life before they were let go. She was essentially their foster mom.
She helped care for two of the chimps for four years. Their names were Swing and Doll.
18 years later, a group tracked down Linda to have her come back to visit the chimps and the whole thing was caught on video.
