Norma Matthews and Edith Antonecchi, twin sisters from Revere, Massachusetts, just celebrated their 100th birthday and took some time to reflect on the incredible life they have shared together.
Friends since birth, Norma and Edith were raised by a single mother. While they agree that life wasn’t always easy in the 1920s and 1930s, they always had each other and that made all the difference.
After graduating from high school, Edy went on to become a nurse while Norma worked as a hairdresser. Their weddings were within three months of each other and they lived close by for 51 years. Even their husbands passed away just a few months apart, which brought the sisters back together again.
Today, Norma and Edy live together in a mobile home park in Florida with their friends and neighbors.
“People love that we’re still together,” Norma said in an interview with The Washington Post. “We’ve done everything together since the day we were born.”
“Edy was always there for me, and I was always there for her,” Norma said. “Whenever I’d get sick, Edy would somehow know. She’d call me up or come rushing over to make sure I was okay.”
The pair celebrated their centennial birthday in St. Petersburg, Flordia and had at least 50 guests fly down for the party.
Discussing their special bond, both Norma and Edy agree they couldn’t be without each other. “We came together, we go together,” Edy said in an interview with the Tampa Bay Times. “I’d do anything for Edy,” said Norma. “She’s my everything.”
