Sometimes life is stranger than fiction.
In a bizarre turn of events, a man who suffered through a horrible day became a hero after saving another motorist’s life.
Michael French of Michigan City, Michigan was driving to work one morning when his windshield suddenly shattered. ”It sounded like a brick hitting my window or something. It was just ridiculously loud,” said French. An owl had flown directly into his car and destroyed the windshield.
Michael pulled over and called the police. Officers arrived and it took French about half an hour to file a formal report.
With most of the damage on the passenger side, the officers let Michael continue on his way as long as he fixed the windshield as soon as possible.
He was just starting to recover from the accident when he saw something equally strange just a few miles down the interstate. A small red sedan was parked on the side of the road and flames starting to flare underneath. Donnette Williams was still sitting in the driver’s seat completely unaware of the danger beneath her.
Michael was in the left lane and pulled over as fast as he could. He started screaming and ran across three lanes of traffic to get Donnette’s attention.
At first Donnette was surprised and a little scared by Michael’s sudden appearance, but she soon realized he was trying to help her. She grabbed her purse and jumped out.
Together Michael and Donnette ran back to safety and watched her car quickly become completely engulfed in flames.
What surprised Michael the most was just how many cars kept driving by while Donnette was still sitting inside. His wife Samantha later told reporters that Michael is very considerate and always stops to help drivers in need.
After everything settled down, Donnette searched for Michael on Facebook to thank him for saving her life. ”I’m grateful God placed him there and I have my life to be at home with my kids,” she said about his heroism.
