For the last 5 years Eryn has been feeding a wild raccoon. The average lifespan for a wild racoon is just 3 years. By his 5th year, the old boy was suffering from some ailment that had left him almost completely blind. “There is something wrong with his tapetum lucidum,” she wrote on her YouTube description. “His eyes shine bright green during the day. He is at least partially blind. He walks into things. He is afraid of the wind, high grass, birds, and snow.”
The poor old raccoon was also missing part of his bottom lip, making it difficult for him to eat. Each day he visited Eryn, who served him soft pasta soaked in cream of chicken soup or pieces of hotdogs and ham.
One day the old raccoon was joined by a pair of tiny black kittens. “I am so glad that I had a camera with me and was able to capture this amazing one in a lifetime moment,” Eryn wrote.
Together the three little friends would visit Eryn’s porch together until the old raccoon passed away just a few weeks later. Eryn decided to tame and adopt the two wild kittens.
“Turned out that I needed the black kittens as much as they needed me,” she wrote. “Taming them helped me slightly cope with the loss of my mom and my 15 year old cat within 9 days of each other. Before mom came down with the flu that ended up sending her to the ER, she said that she wanted to keep the kittens.”
