It’s been nearly three years and the residents of Flint, Michigan are still suffering from toxic lead levels in their water. With little to no changes being made by the local or federal government, a group of 300 union plumbers traveled to Michigan to help the people directly.
The only solution for the majority of Flint’s residents is a water filter attached directly to the faucet. Unfortunately not all faucets can fit the required filter. Older and oddly shaped faucets are particularly difficult.
That’s where the noble plumbers with United Association Local 370 come in to play. These caring handy-men went door to door installing filters and new faucets completely for free. Literally hundreds of plumbers answered the Union’s call for volunteers last weekend.

What looked like an army of men armed with toolboxes descended upon the town of Flint like a squadron of helpful angels. ”We did not cause this American tragedy in Flint,” Local 370 official Harold Harrington told the crowd. “But we certainly can help correct the damage that has been done!”
In a single day more than 800 homes were outfitted with the equipment required to make the water drinkable again. The hardware required for this massive job was donated by Plumbing Manufacturers International at a cost of roughly $100 per home.
