While professional football players in the NFL have been taking a knee in protest, one high school football team in Georgia decided to do the opposite. The players took the field carrying American flags while the marching band played patriotic music.
The school superintendent told reporters that it felt like a “Unifying moment for the community,” according to WSB-TV.
Fannin County High School is located in North Georgia and the team played against Greater Atlanta Christian School on Friday night. The players decided to kick up their pregame routine by including a flag for each of the individual players.
Michael Gwatney, the previously mentioned superintendent for the school said, “It was an awesome and unifying moment for the audiences on both sides of our stadium and reminded us that no matter what team we support, we are all Americans.”
Fannin County High School lost the game but Gwatney said the messages was more important, “our players certainly won the hearts of our community with the display of patriotism.”
