At Kalama Beach in Kailua, Hawaii, Anela Rezentes was splashing around in the ocean. Her mother was only a few feet away, filming her playing in the surf. Her mother was taken aback when Anela ran up to her in tears and told her there was a shark.
“By the time she came out of the water, she was hysterical,” Sheri Gouveia told KHON2. “I was like oh my gosh. So I ran up, but I was looking for it but couldn’t see it. I didn’t realize it was actually a shark. That’s what shocked me.”
The shark was a blacktip shark, which is noted for being fearful and feeding on small fish in shallow water. Thankfully, Anela was uninjured when she emerged from the water, but things could have turned out differently if the shark had felt threatened.
